Wicker inspired styling

Looking to neutral and whitewashed textures and tones of the beach and summer inspired styling that we’re exploring this month, we’re inspired by wicker decor pieces, which are woven in rattan, bamboo or seagrass.

“Wicker is definitely having a resurgence now,” said Bali Event Hire co-owner Vanessa Barlow.

“It’s not surprising because as fashion continues it’s love affair with ‘70s-inspired influences, the overall aesthetic of wicker evokes a certain nostalgia for the past, yet placed alongside contemporary pieces they remain timeless and stylish.”

When considering incorporating these decor pieces into your overall wedding aesthetic, draw inspiration from your venue and consider the atmosphere you ultimately want to create.

“The raw timber and natural fibers of rattan, bamboo or seagrass can compliment the surrounds of a beach or outdoor reception,” said Vanessa.

“While a scattering of wicker lounges with over-sized cushions in a fresh palette of crisp white can extend upon a relaxed, yet elegant mood of resort luxe.”

To integrate these pieces into your reception tablescape, Vanessa recommends layering rattan plate chargers with stone or hand forged ceramics and soft, earthy textiles on raw timber tables.

For brides with an affinity for the bohemian, wicker chairs such as the throne-esque peacock chair are another way to incorporate this trend into your ceremony or reception.

“Architectural in their scope and adorned with intricate patterning resembling lace, the dramatic fantail back both draws the eye and can add scale where needed,” said Vanessa.

“We recommend sticking to a lighter palette of white or neutral for a timeless look, as opposed to the pastel painted peacock chairs that were popular a few years ago.”
