Xen & Cam

Amidst the dappled fading light and eternal beauty of the natural surrounds, Lilli Waters from I Got You Babe Weddings, captures the soulful exchange of this elegant inner-city Melbourne wedding.

The outdoor ceremony effortlessly flowing into a candlelit reception, where family and friends enjoy a sumptuous dinner from Blake’s Feast.

The industrial space of Two Ton Max is elegantly transformed by Short & Spook, with long timber tables, white brentwood chairs and copper vases. While overhead Edison bulb pendants and an abundance of colorful florals in macramé baskets hang from the ceiling.

This is a wedding that exudes the refinement of a city celebration with a sense of easy elegance and subtle touches of rustic whimsy. Beautifully polished, yet relaxed in mood.

Wedding date: 18 April 2015 | Number of Guests: 112

How you met: We went to school together but it wasn’t until a few years later that we reconnected through friends on a night out in Hobart.
The proposal: I was working the late shift as a nurse. It was Good Friday so Cam had the day off. When I went to work, Cam decorated our home with rose petals and confetti and printed out pictures of the two of us. He also lined our entry hall with clusters of candles for a big surprise when I walked in. As he waited for me to arrive, he received a phone call saying that I had been in a car accident on the way home from work and was being taken to hospital. Cam quickly got changed and went to the hospital to make sure I was okay. (I was just a little scratched and bruised.) When we arrived home at 3am from the hospital Cam asked me to close my eyes. He re-lit the candles and proposed! It didn’t go as planned but it’s a cool story.

We wanted somewhere rustic and outdoors in the sunshine. Luckily we found Yarra Bend Park which is so beautiful and close to the city. For our reception we wanted somewhere that was industrial and urban. We chose Two Ton Max in North Melbourne, which was perfect.

We loved walking into Two Ton Max for the first time to all the clapping and cheering. Cam loved watching me walk down the aisle holding onto my mum.

Our photographer was Lilli Waters from I Got You Babe Weddings. We loved her ability to document the special moments of the day in such a natural way. She was able to capture all the fun, excitement and colours of the day. Her photos are so beautiful!

Bride’s Gown: My dress featured scalloped lace detailing which is why I loved it. I found it while visiting my family in Hobart. We were walking past LUX and I saw my dress in the window. I was with two of my sisters and two of my bridesmaids at the time and they convinced me to try it on. I loved it instantly. I still tried on other dresses just to be sure but went with my original choice.
Bridesmaid’s dresses: The bridesmaid’s dresses were pink shift dresses from C/MEO Collective, which suited all the girls.
Groomsmen attire: Cameron chose a light blue suit from Peter Jacksons to fit with the fun/party vibe we wanted to create. He finished off the look with a knitted polka dot tie and tanned brogue shoes from ASOS.

Wedding rings: Cameron chose my engagement ring with some not so subtle hinting from me.
Accessories: We gave each of the groomsmen a watch from The Horse. The bridesmaids all received a Bardot ring from Samantha Wills.

On the day: Myself and the girls got ready in a beautiful home that we rented nearby in Coburg. The boys got ready in a rental home in Northcote and enjoyed a nice breakfast on High Street before getting ready.
Hair: My hair was styled by Sophie Knox in classic loose waves.
Makeup: My friend Meagan Pate did my makeup in natural soft browns and nudes.

Style: The overall style was modern industrial with a touch of rustic.
Florals: Our florist from Wunderplant was amazing. She created a relaxed bouquet with cascading greenery, featuring pinks and whites. She also created gorgeous macramé hanging arrangements for our reception.
Stationery: Our invitations by Emma Smith Stationary were crafted in a modern geometric design in soft pink and grey colours.
Decor: We hired decor from Dann Event Hire and Dress My Wedding – both were amazing to deal with. Edison bulb pendant lights and macramé arrangements hung over long timber tables and white Bentwood chairs and the tables were dressed with copper vases from Rainy Sunday.  We had a little relax/chill out area with couches and copper coffee tables as well as copper bar stools and wooden bar tables.
Favours: We gave the guys a bow tie to wear for the day and take home as their bonbonniere.  They were all different patterns, colours and textures. I made candles for all of the girls which were a mixture of coconut, lime, pomegranate and acai.

Catering: Blake’s Feast created shared plates followed by a delicious supper of mini Wagyu burgers and fish and chips. We also created a whisky bar and served guests espresso martinis.
Cake: Coco Cakes created a three-tier naked cake made from white chocolate and honeycomb buttercream. Everyone said it was the best cake they had ever tasted.

Processional: I walked down the aisle to Only Love by Ben Howard
First Dance: Islands by The XX, which is a song we both love.
Reception Soundtrack: We created our own play list by asking guests to include a song on their invite reply which they would like to dance to. We also had some Greek Zorba dancing to get everyone up.

Event Planner / Stylist: The girls at Short & Spook were amazing. They helped a lot and gave us some great ideas. They were so easy to deal with and wrote back to our emails instantly (Cam being a lawyer asks a lot of questions…).
Catering: Blake’s Feast were also incredible. They went beyond with their catering and gave us the idea of the espresso martinis and also helped us with decisions about timing.
Cinematography: Love Soldier – they were so easy to deal with and captured the day perfectly.

We went to Boracay in the Philippines where we soaked up the sun and relaxed. It was such a cool, chilled island with beautiful people, we loved it.

Just relax because it will all work out and be the best day of your life. Take time to speak with your guests and take everything in, it goes so quickly. Also we would recommend getting a video!
